I became involved with this project after the school grounds had received significant damage as a result of the derecho that tore through Iowa in 2020. The existing bleachers, backstops, baseball dugouts, and more were destroyed as a result of the storm and left the school with no choice but to renovate their already dated facility.
I started by building a conceptual model used to springboard their fundraising efforts.

However, knowing that the fields needed to be operational ASAP, I jumped right into design. As is the case with all reconstruction projects, there were many site limitations leading to an iterative process, but streamlined thanks to the use of a highly detailed 3D model I was able to generate of the existing conditions through the use of laser scanning and photogrammetry.

The final product made both my nephews, who play baseball for competing schools, make remarks of jealousy and complimented many of the very feature that stemmed from my decision making.
